FAQ Page
A FAQ page is a page, or a section of one, that lists the questions customers actually ask and answers each one directly beneath it. Its value to an AI assistant is structural: the question names what a passage answers, and the passage is short enough to lift whole.
What makes one work for a machine
Real questions, in the words a customer uses, one per heading. Under each, the answer first, in one or two sentences a reader could quote back, then the qualification if there is one. No answer that says “contact us”; the page exists so that the contact is unnecessary for that question. Prices as ranges, times as times, areas served as places. A question with a paragraph of context and the answer buried in its fourth sentence has the heading but not the span, and it is the span an assistant takes.
How many small-business sites have one
Few. This site’s audit of 9,483 small-business sites in September 2026 found that 61.5% had no question-and-answer content of any kind: no FAQ section, no FAQPage schema, nothing shaped like a customer’s question. Half the sites, 50.7%, did have at least one heading phrased as a question and did not isolate an answer under it. So the pattern is known and half-attempted, and the missing piece is the answer sitting alone beneath the question. A common question
Is a FAQ page the same as FAQ schema?
No. A FAQ page is the visible content: questions people ask, with the answers written out beneath them. FAQ schema is a JSON-LD block that repeats those pairs in a form a machine can parse. The page works without the schema, because the text is what a crawler reads and an assistant quotes. The schema does nothing without the page, and Google’s documentation requires that anything in the markup also be visible to a reader.
